The first weekend we were here in CO, we set off to the Western Stock Show -- the most heralded event of the year for all things cowboy/girl, rancher, livestock enthusiast, tractor driving, hunting efficinados, etc. Glad we went with a cowboy escort, it put the NC statefair to shame, no rides, but plenty of fried dough and boots to be had.
We bought our tickets for the Mexican Rodeo and got to see people strap thier 5 year old kids to sheep, slap on a bike helmet and see how long thier offspring can hang on in the Mutton Bustin' Competition. Not, only that the bull from the bull fihgt charges the flamenco dancers, picking up and pushing the fencing and making the colored skirts go flying off the stage in a whirl of colors.
Dancers of many nations and colors with kids and flags and horses of all kinds.
The first time i have ever seen a rodeo - i cant belive that people can stay on these bulls at all.
The clean up crew coming in to rope these angry, and rightfully so, s.o.b.s
the stupid rodeo clown is in the barrel and i wish that he would have gotten it in the butt.
There were ladies riding side saddle, high school kids doing stunt movie tricks and finally, the man behind the magic, the man whose heart lies in his family, with the good lord and above all, ontop of his horse, Jerry Diaz -- yup, that is him standing ontop of his horse as it lies on the ground.
